DESCRIPTION: Chelsea Clock Co., Chelsea, Mass., rare "Wardroom" model, massive polished cast bronze case, the sides with ogee, ovolo and cavetto moldings, and finished with a half round section bezel, 12 inch Arabic numeral silvered dial with circular graining and small seconds just above the center arbor, and signed "Louis Weule Co. San Francisco", blued steel moon hands, 8 day time only movement, serial #72164, c1912
CONDITION: Case originally patinated, and with minor porosity, dial restored, hands reblued, running, diameter 18 1/2", depth 5 1/2". The Chelsea factory sales ledgers indicate that this clock was sold to Louis Weule & Co. on March 14, 1912, and originally finished in catalog option D, Black Oxide. The clock is one of five known to exist, two of which are owned by the Chelsea museum. According to the book "Chelsea Clock Company the First Hundred Years" by Demeter, this model is rare in any size, and the 12" dial was the largest offered.
